About

Yoga With Charlie

Accessible to both the beginner student as well as the veteran practitioner, my yoga classes are based on a holistic approach - incorporating pranayama (breath work/breath control), meditation, asana (yoga postures), yogic philosophy, and self-inquiry.

Teaching mindful movement and an in-depth understanding of postures, I aim to provide students of all experience levels with clear alignment instruction, gentle hands-on adjustments, and an inviting, safe yoga practice. An encouraging and attentive teacher, I am passionate about empowering students to embrace their authenticity and use yoga as a tool for life. My hope is to inspire you to live life to your fullest potential through the practices of yoga, mindfulness, and positive living.

Whether you're looking to de-stress or create some balance, going through a tough life transition, or just curious about mindful movement ... whatever your reasons for seeking yoga, the intention of this practice is to support and meet you wherever you are in your journey.

I’m an insured and registered yoga teacher (RYT) with the Yoga Alliance and adhere to their standards of teaching. I have over 700 hours of experience teaching a variety of styles based in the hatha tradition: gentle yoga, chair yoga, restorative, yin, and power. I’m available for:

  • Group and studio classes

  • Private classes (one-on-one and small group; special occasion)

  • Corporate classes

  • Retreats and workshops

Charlie Simmonds

My name is Charlie and my passion for the practice of yoga has translated off the mat and into a way of life. I’m a wellness enthusiast, yoga teacher, sustainability fan, empath, traveller, lifelong learner, and professional feeler of feelings and noticer of the world and people around me.

After working in the corporate sector for a decade, I decided it was time for a change. In 2016, I completed my 200 hour Raja yoga teacher training with Jacqueline Chiodo of Joyful Yoga. This training changed my life. My experiences have inspired me to share the powerful practice of yoga with others; I’m passionate about learning and sharing everything that yoga has given me. I finally feel I am on the right path.

When I’m not practicing yoga I can be found reading, learning more about yoga and wellness, cooking (and eating!), hiking in nature, and planning travel adventures. Last year I drove from San Diego to Calgary while living in a car and then a van - it was an incredibly inspiring experience. Each time I travel somewhere I gain a new perspective, understanding and appreciation for this beautiful planet.

I believe that the practice of yoga is so much more than the physical postures. While this is where my journey began, I now practice yoga as a way of life, on and off the mat. I’ve observed so many positive transformations in myself over the years I’ve been practicing yoga, and now as a teacher, I am privileged enough to be reminded of this and witness positive changes in my students. While I still love a good asana practice and its many benefits for my physical body, it’s truly the wider impact of yoga that I consider my greater success in this practice - as a student, and now as a teacher too. Since practicing yoga I’ve established a much deeper understanding of and connection to myself - physically, mentally, and energetically. That understanding and connection is the new lens through which I see my life experiences. It’s a pretty amazing place to grow from.

I hope to meet you on your mat, as you are, to guide you through your yoga journey.

With eyes wide-open awareness, namaste.
